Privacy Policy

HorizonOS - a private, local-first Windows desktop shell. How your data is handled and protected.

Effective date: 7 Jun 2026  ·  Version: 1.0.0.0  ·  Publisher: Hasnain Butt Akhtar

1. Overview

HorizonOS is a Windows desktop shell and launcher: a full-screen home screen with an app hub, live widgets, universal search, window management and live wallpapers, summoned by a hotkey or used as your Windows shell.

HorizonOS runs locally on your device and does not transmit personal data to Hasnain Studio X.

We do not sell, share, rent, or monetize user data. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

HorizonOS does not collect or send the following to the developer:

Identity Data

No name, email, phone number, or account/identity data is collected.

Telemetry & Analytics

No usage analytics, crash reporting SDKs, ad tracking, or third-party telemetry are used.

Files & Content

Your documents, notes and pinned apps are never uploaded to our servers.

Credentials

No passwords, keychain, or hidden account data are read or collected.

3. Data Stored Locally

Everything HorizonOS remembers is kept on your device (under your Windows user profile - %APPDATA% / %LOCALAPPDATA%):

Settings & Personalization

Accent colour, glass style, wallpaper choice, hotkey and signature.

App Hub & Scenes

The apps you pin and the workspaces (scenes) you create.

Notes & Focus

Quick notes and Pomodoro/focus preferences you enter.

Screen-time Insights

Foreground app names and durations for the Focus dashboard, stored locally and never transmitted.

Trial / License State

A local cache of your Microsoft Store license (trial or Pro) for offline launches.

4. System Readings

HorizonOS reads live GPU, CPU and RAM usage from the local Windows performance counters to display the system widgets. These readings are shown on-screen only and are never recorded or sent anywhere.

5. Weather (Third-Party Service)

The weather widget fetches forecasts from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a third-party weather service. To do this, HorizonOS sends the location you choose - a city name or its approximate coordinates - to Open-Meteo. No personal identity is attached to this request.

If you do not set a location, a default city is used. You can change or clear it at any time. Open-Meteo's handling of requests is governed by its own privacy terms.

6. Focus & Screen-Time Insights

The Focus panel records which app is in the foreground and for how long, to show your daily screen-time and most-used apps. This usage data is stored only on your device, is never transmitted, and you can clear it at any time by removing the HorizonOS data folder.

The app catalog reads the names and icons of installed applications (from the Start Menu and your per-user app folders) so you can search and pin them. This is read on your device only and is never uploaded.

7. Microsoft Store Purchases

HorizonOS is a paid app with a Microsoft Store-managed free trial. Payment, billing and license validation are handled by the Microsoft Store under Microsoft's policies.

HorizonOS does not process or store any payment card details. The app only reads your license status (trial or full) to unlock the paid experience.

8. App Permissions

HorizonOS requests only the minimum capabilities required for its features: internet access (for weather) and full-trust desktop access needed for a shell to launch apps and manage windows. Permissions are used only for app functionality, never for data harvesting.

9. Children's Privacy

HorizonOS is a general-purpose desktop utility and is not directed to children under 13.

10. Policy Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date and version shown at the top of this page.
